Registered Nurse

Are you committed to making a meaningful difference whilst striking that important work life balance?

Join one of Scotland’s most innovative and pioneering health boards on its beautiful east coast. Apply to NHS Fife now as a registered nurse.

Affectionately known as the ‘dugs heid’ due to its shape on maps, the Kingdom of Fife is gaining a growing reputation as one of Scotland’s must-visit destinations.

With stunning coastlines, unrivalled access to outdoor activities, world famous local cuisine, areas steeped in important history, and growing numbers of people from across the globe making it their number one destination for university education, Fife is swiftly emerging from the shadows of Scotland’s major cities. Did we also mention that the Kingdom topped many people’s staycation list during the Covid-19 pandemic?

Providing healthcare services to this area is NHS Fife. With a team of approximately 9,000 staff caring for a population of around 370,000 people, our mission is to make health and social care the best it can possibly be for our residents. To do this, we need caring, compassionate people who have the drive to make a difference in their field. If that’s you, we would love to welcome you to join our growing nursing team.

  • “Moving to Scotland and NHS Fife  was the best decision of my career. I have been empowered to introduce new services and develop my skills.” Petros Tsafrakidis

Aside from the beauty and opportunities within the Kingdom itself, the last few years have positioned NHS Fife at the forefront of both local and national innovation. As part of relatively small teams, our staff have considerable influence on the development of patient care, the enhancement of vital services, and the shaping of the patient experience and journey. Recent innovations include:

    • First Scottish health board to pilot Urolift – a minimally invasive procedure for enlarged prostate.
    • The first Scottish health board to pilot successful day-case hip replacement.
    • The first Scottish health board to deploy a full-scale electronic track and trigger system to capture vital signs at hospital bedsides.
    • A pilot site for a new pathway for the early detection of cancer.
    • Our unique frailty assessment service – identifying frailty at the earliest opportunity and providing the right care.
    • The commissioning of the Fife Elective Orthopaedic Centre, which is due to be completed next year.
    • Elite ISO 15189 laboratory accreditation – the gold standard for laboratory practice.
    • Maternity services accredited as a UNICEF UK Baby Friendly initiative ‘Gold’ Service in recognition of care our families receive

  • “We understand that staff have a life and responsibilities outside the NHS … we endeavour to work with staff and ensure their roles work for them and those closest to them.”

Working across both community and hospital settings, our staff are at the heart of everything that we do – therefore, we understand the importance of a healthy and flexible approach to work life balance. We know how important the work we do is, but we also understand that our staff have a life and responsibilities outside the NHS. That’s why in addition to benefits like pension contributions, increasing holidays in line with length of service, and career progression support, we also endeavour to work with staff and ensure their roles work for them and those closest to them.

We strongly believe that a fulfilling career helping people to live long, and healthy lives should not mean choosing between work and home life.

  • “I’ve had a long and rewarding nursing career with NHS Fife. I’ve received constant opportunities and support to develop my career and achieved great job satisfaction.” Heather McKellar, Senior Charge Nurse

NHS Fife is looking to recruit registered nurses to work at locations across the Kingdom as part of multi-disciplinary teams. These are crucial roles at the forefront of healthcare, making a meaningful difference to people when they need us most. The posts have responsibility for a range of duties, including the assessment of care needs and the delivery of various programmes of care.
